MPI Trade Certification go-live info

Modified on Mon, 17 Aug at 11:55 AM

Summary

MPI Trade Certification replaces AP E-cert on 17th August 2026.  This article explains what changes, and what to do if you see errors that have been seen throughout the testing stages.

What changes in Prodoc?

On go-live date, MPI will automatically route all AP E-cert submissions to Trade Certification, so use of Prodoc will be exactly the same as before the transition.  You'll use the same EDI messages in the same way, and any existing automation should work without change.

Outside of Prodoc, you'll need to log into the MPI Trade Certification Digital Front End (DFE).  This replaces the AP E-cert website, and you'll need to be registered with your RealMe account.

Emailed extracts for approved certificates will not be available between the first and second release of Trade Certification for animal products. The second release on 14th September will restore this feature.
See this page for further details.

Potential errors

The below error messages have been seen during testing stages, and mitigated where possible.  When Prodoc shows an error in History, click the Show button the the left of the History entry to see more details.

'Anonymous' errors

When you see "The HTTP request was forbidden with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'" as an error this can mean one of two things based on the second line:

(401) Unauthorized indicates a system account error.

If you encounter this, it means your AP E-cert system account was not successfully migrated to Trade Certification.  Contact MPI on tradecertification@mpi.govt.nz copying in prodoc@tradewindow.io so the support team can provide additional information as required.

(403) Forbidden indicates a user profile error.

If you encounter this, it may mean you did not sign up for Trade Certification in time to have your user profile migrated across and will need to be registered.  Reach out to MPI on tradecertification@mpi.govt.nz to ask what the correct user profile is for your Trade Certification account.  This user profile can then be added in Edit -> System Configuration -> User Details in Prodoc.

Export request not found (on amendment)

Trade Certification handles amendments slightly differently to AP E-cert, requiring the full certificate reference to be provided rather than just he number portion.  We have reached out to customers with a solution that changes the behaviour within Prodoc, but if your company did not receive or take up that offer, or if a specific template did not get picked up during the work then you may receive this error.

Please reach out to prodoc@tradewindow.io with details of the shipment you're trying to amend and we'll advise further.

Production Batch must be provided (EU templates)

The Production Batch has long been mandatory for various EU templates, but this was not enforced by AP E-cert and some systems were not sending it.  If you encounter this error it likely means you need to add a batch/lot number in the Products screen of your shipment and try again.  If you cannot see a batch/lot number column then contact prodoc@tradewindow.io who can investigate further.

Other errors

The above covers all of the errors we have encountered that are specific to Trade Certification.  Data errors in AP E-cert are fairly common, so if you receive an error not on the above list it is likely unrelated to the system change and you should review the error message as you would have in the past.  Reach out to prodoc@tradewindow.io if you cannot see a clear reason for an error you have received.
